PRP Microneedling

Regenerative Skin Rejuvenation

PRP Microneedling in Ashland, OR

You may have heard of PRP facials under a trademarked name that went viral on social media — the one with the blood-covered face photos. We don’t offer that branded treatment. What we offer is PRP microneedling — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood, combined with professional microneedling — which uses the same core science but is our own protocol, not a licensed franchise.

The distinction matters to us because the science matters more than the branding. PRP microneedling is one of the most evidence-backed regenerative treatments in aesthetic medicine. The concept is simple and the biology is sound — your blood contains concentrated growth factors that accelerate healing and tissue regeneration. When those growth factors are isolated and delivered into your skin through microneedling, they supercharge the collagen-building process in ways that microneedling alone can’t match.

Decades of regenerative medicine applied to your face. And the results — for acne scars, texture, fine lines, and overall skin quality — are why patients keep coming back for it long after the social media novelty wears off.

What PRP Actually Is

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma — and it starts with a small blood draw from your arm. Same as any routine lab work. Nothing complicated.

That blood is placed in a centrifuge right here at Illume, where it’s spun at high speed to separate the components. Red blood cells go to the bottom. Plasma rises to the top. And in between is the gold — a concentrated layer of platelets packed with growth factors, cytokines, and proteins that your body uses to heal tissue, build collagen, and regenerate cells.

This isn’t a synthetic product. It’s not a foreign substance. It’s your own biology, concentrated and redirected. The growth factors in PRP include the same signaling molecules that rush to a wound site to trigger healing — except instead of responding to an injury, they’re being deliberately delivered to your skin to trigger regeneration where you want it.

PRP has been used in orthopedic medicine, sports medicine, and wound care for years. The aesthetic application takes the same science and focuses it on skin rejuvenation — particularly when combined with microneedling, which creates the delivery channels that make PRP dramatically more effective than topical application alone.

How PRP Microneedling Works — Two Treatments in One

You already know what microneedling does on its own — thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin that trigger your body’s collagen-building wound-healing response. It’s effective. It’s proven. And for many patients, it’s enough.

PRP microneedling takes that process and amplifies it.

After your blood is drawn and the PRP is prepared in our centrifuge, your provider applies the concentrated platelet-rich plasma to your skin and begins microneedling. The microneedling device creates micro-channels in the skin — and the PRP floods those channels simultaneously. Your own growth factors are delivered directly into the dermal layer, where they reach the fibroblasts and stem cells that produce collagen, elastin, and new healthy tissue.

The microneedling triggers healing. The PRP accelerates it. The combination produces results that neither treatment achieves alone — more collagen, faster tissue remodeling, and more significant improvement in texture, scarring, and overall skin quality.

Think of it this way: microneedling tells your skin to repair itself. PRP gives it the raw materials to repair faster and better.

What PRP Microneedling Treats

Acne scars. This is where PRP microneedling has some of its strongest clinical evidence. The combination of mechanical collagen stimulation from microneedling plus the growth factor acceleration from PRP produces more significant scar improvement than either treatment alone. Rolling scars, boxcar scars, and the general textural damage that acne leaves behind — PRP microneedling addresses the tissue remodeling needed to genuinely smooth scarred skin. If standard microneedling improved your scars but didn’t finish the job, PRP is the upgrade that often makes the difference.

Fine lines and skin aging. The growth factors in PRP stimulate collagen and elastin production at an accelerated rate. Fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead respond to the increased structural protein production. The result isn’t overnight — it builds over weeks as new collagen forms — but the improvement in skin quality and texture is real and lasting.

Dull, tired-looking skin. PRP improves microcirculation and accelerates cell turnover. The combination of new blood vessel formation, enhanced nutrient delivery, and faster replacement of damaged cells produces a visible improvement in radiance and glow. Patients consistently describe their skin as looking “alive again” after a PRP microneedling series.

Uneven texture and tone. The rough, bumpy, uneven quality that no serum seems to smooth out. PRP microneedling resurfaces texture through collagen remodeling from below — not by removing layers from above. What grows back is smoother, more uniform skin with better light reflection.

Sun damage. Accumulated UV damage affects skin quality in ways that surface treatments can only partially address. PRP’s regenerative signaling reaches the deeper tissue where sun damage resides, stimulating repair and renewal at the cellular level.

Under-eye rejuvenation. The thin, crepey skin beneath the eyes responds particularly well to PRP — the growth factors stimulate tissue renewal in an area that’s too delicate for many aggressive treatments. Dark circles, fine lines, and the hollow quality that makes eyes look tired can all improve with a targeted PRP microneedling approach.

What Your Treatment Looks Like

The blood draw. A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm — typically one to two tubes, depending on the treatment area. Same process as any routine blood work. Quick and painless.

PRP preparation. Your blood goes into our in-house centrifuge. The spinning process takes about 10 to 15 minutes and separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of your blood components. Your PRP is prepared fresh, right here, for your specific treatment.

Numbing. Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and left on for about 30 minutes. PRP microneedling is more intensive than a standard facial, and we want you comfortable. NitroNox is also available.

The treatment. Your provider applies the PRP to your skin and begins microneedling. The PRP is worked into the micro-channels as they’re created — growth factors delivered directly into the treatment zone in real time. Full face takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Immediately after. Your skin will be red — more noticeably than standard microneedling because the PRP adds volume and stimulation to the treatment. You may have residual plasma on your skin that gives it a golden or slightly sticky appearance. This is normal and washes off. Your provider may ask you to leave the PRP on for several hours to maximize absorption.

Recovery. One to three days of redness and mild swelling — similar to a sunburn. More noticeable than standard microneedling, less noticeable than laser resurfacing. Most patients are comfortable with makeup by day two or three. No significant downtime.

How Many Sessions You’ll Need

Most patients benefit from one to three PRP microneedling sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. The number depends on your specific concerns and goals:

One session may be sufficient for general skin rejuvenation, mild texture improvement, or maintenance for patients who already have good skin quality.

Two to three sessions are typically recommended for acne scarring, significant texture concerns, or patients seeking maximum collagen stimulation. Each session builds on the previous one — the growth factor response is cumulative.

After your initial series, periodic maintenance sessions (every six to twelve months) sustain the regenerative benefits and keep your collagen production elevated.

PRP Microneedling vs Standard Microneedling

You might be wondering: do I need the PRP, or is regular microneedling enough?

Here’s the honest answer: standard microneedling is a great treatment. It stimulates collagen, improves texture, and produces real results. For mild to moderate concerns, it may be all you need.

PRP microneedling adds a layer of biological acceleration that standard microneedling doesn’t have. The growth factors in PRP amplify the healing response, produce more collagen per session, and speed up the timeline for visible improvement. For acne scars, more significant aging, or patients who want the maximum result from each session, PRP is the upgrade that justifies the additional investment.

Standard microneedling: Collagen stimulation through mechanical micro-injuries. Excellent for texture, tone, mild scarring, and maintenance. Multiple sessions recommended.

PRP microneedling: Everything standard microneedling does, plus concentrated growth factors that accelerate and amplify the collagen response. Stronger results per session. Particularly effective for acne scars, under-eyes, and skin that needs more than mechanical stimulation alone can provide.

Both are good choices. Your provider will assess your skin and goals and recommend which one makes the most sense for you.

How PRP Compares to Other Regenerative Treatments

vs Salmon DNA Facial — Both are regenerative treatments that work at the cellular level. The Salmon DNA Facial uses PDRN (polynucleotide fragments from salmon DNA) to activate A2A adenosine receptors. PRP uses your own concentrated growth factors. Different biological pathways, both producing collagen and tissue renewal. Some patients benefit from alternating between the two.

vs Sculptra — Both stimulate collagen, but through completely different mechanisms. Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid particles to create a mechanical collagen response, primarily for volume restoration. PRP uses biological growth factors for skin quality improvement. They complement each other well — Sculptra for structure, PRP for surface quality.

vs Profound RF — Profound RF uses radiofrequency energy to create new elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. PRP microneedling uses your own growth factors to amplify collagen production. Profound RF is the more aggressive single-session treatment for tightening. PRP microneedling is gentler per session with less downtime. Different tools for different intensity levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PRP microneedling and the trademarked “vampire facial”?

The trademarked Vampire Facial is a specific branded protocol licensed to providers. PRP microneedling — which is what we offer at Illume — uses the same core science: platelet-rich plasma from your own blood combined with professional microneedling. We draw your blood, centrifuge it on-site to isolate concentrated growth factors, and deliver the PRP into your skin during microneedling. The biological mechanism is the same. The difference is that we use our own clinical protocol rather than a licensed franchise — and the results are driven by the science, not the brand name.

How much does PRP microneedling cost?

We don’t publish specific pricing because treatment plans are customized. PRP microneedling costs more than standard microneedling because of the blood draw, centrifuge processing, and PRP preparation involved. For context: it’s a fraction of the cost of laser resurfacing while addressing many of the same texture and scarring concerns with less downtime. IllumèNaughty Beauty Bank members receive their discount. Your provider discusses exact pricing during your consultation.

How many PRP microneedling sessions do I need?

One to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. One session may be sufficient for general rejuvenation. Two to three sessions are recommended for acne scarring or significant texture concerns — each session builds cumulatively. Maintenance sessions every six to twelve months sustain results.

Does PRP microneedling hurt?

Topical numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes before treatment. With numbing, most patients describe the sensation as pressure and mild prickling — similar to standard microneedling. NitroNox is available for extra comfort.

What’s the recovery from PRP microneedling?

One to three days of redness and mild swelling — more than standard microneedling, less than laser resurfacing. Most patients are comfortable with makeup by day two or three. Your provider may ask you to leave the PRP on your skin for several hours post-treatment to maximize absorption. Avoid retinoids and active exfoliants for 48 hours. No significant downtime.

Is PRP microneedling safe?

Yes. PRP uses your own blood — there’s no risk of allergic reaction or rejection because the growth factors come from your body. The microneedling component carries the same safety profile as standard microneedling. Contraindications include active skin infections, blood disorders, anticoagulant medication, pregnancy, and active acne in the treatment area. Your provider reviews your health history before treatment.

Is PRP microneedling better than regular microneedling?

It depends on your goals. Standard microneedling is excellent for texture, tone, and mild concerns. PRP microneedling adds concentrated growth factors that amplify and accelerate the collagen response — producing stronger results per session. For acne scars, significant texture issues, or patients wanting maximum benefit, PRP is the stronger option. Your provider will recommend based on your skin assessment.

Can PRP microneedling help with acne scars?

Yes — acne scarring is one of the strongest indications for PRP microneedling. The combination of mechanical collagen stimulation from microneedling plus growth factor acceleration from PRP produces more significant scar improvement than either treatment alone. Multiple sessions are typically recommended for acne scarring, with each building on the last.

Your Body Already Has What Your Skin Needs — PRP Puts It Where It Matters

There’s something elegant about a treatment that uses your own biology to regenerate your own skin. No foreign substances. No synthetic products. Just your growth factors, concentrated and delivered exactly where they can do the most good.

If your skin needs more than a facial but you’re drawn to the idea of working with your body rather than adding something to it — PRP microneedling is that treatment.
