Natural Bio Filler
What if the best filler for your face was already inside you?
That’s the idea behind PRF — platelet-rich fibrin. It’s your own blood, drawn and processed right here at Illume, concentrated into a natural bio-filler that your body recognizes as its own. No synthetic hyaluronic acid. No foreign material. Just your growth factors, your fibrin matrix, and your body’s own regenerative biology — injected wherever you’d normally place dermal filler.
Under the eyes. Cheeks. Temples. Nasolabial folds. Jawline. Lips. Anywhere filler goes, PRF can go — with a fundamentally different relationship to your tissue.
PRF isn’t trying to replace Juvéderm or Restylane. Those products are excellent at what they do and we use them every day. But for patients who want something their body made — something that stimulates regeneration instead of just adding volume — PRF is the option that didn’t exist a few years ago. And now it does.
What PRF Is — And How It’s Different from PRP
You already know PRP from our PRP microneedling, vaginal rejuvenation, and PRP breast lift pages. PRF takes that science a step further.
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is your blood spun in a centrifuge with an anticoagulant to isolate liquid plasma packed with platelets and growth factors. It’s powerful for surface application — spread on the skin during microneedling, injected for tissue regeneration. It’s liquid and absorbs relatively quickly.
PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is spun differently — slower speed, no anticoagulant. The result is a fibrin matrix that holds the platelets and growth factors in a three-dimensional scaffold. Think of it as PRP that comes with its own time-release structure. The fibrin matrix releases growth factors gradually over days to weeks instead of all at once, which means the regenerative signal lasts longer.
Why that matters for filler-like applications: PRF stays put. It has body. It can be injected into the same areas you’d place dermal filler, and the fibrin scaffold holds its position while growth factors stimulate collagen production in the surrounding tissue. The volume from the initial injection is temporary — but the collagen it builds is not.
The simple version: PRP is the liquid growth factor boost. PRF is the injectable bio-filler with a built-in collagen factory.
We offer both at Illume. Your provider selects the right one based on the application.
PRF Under Eyes — The Hero Application
This is the treatment that’s driving most of the interest in PRF — and for good reason.
The under-eye area is one of the most delicate and challenging zones in facial aesthetics. The skin is thin. The tissue is prone to puffiness. And traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, while effective, carry specific risks in this area — including the Tyndall effect (a bluish tint visible through thin skin) and the potential for filler migration over time.
PRF offers something different for under-eyes:
No Tyndall effect. Because PRF is your own biological material — not synthetic hyaluronic acid — there’s no risk of the blue-gray discoloration that can occur with HA fillers under thin skin.
Collagen stimulation, not just volume. HA fillers add volume beneath the under-eye hollow. PRF adds initial volume AND stimulates collagen production in the tissue. The dark circles, hollow quality, and crepey texture all improve — not just the volume.
Natural integration. Your body doesn’t treat PRF as a foreign substance. There’s no encapsulation, no inflammatory response beyond normal healing. The material integrates with your tissue because it IS your tissue.
Gradual, natural-looking results. PRF results build over weeks as collagen forms. The improvement looks like your under-eyes just… got better. Not filled. Not puffed. Just healthier and less hollow.
Multiple sessions are typically recommended for under-eyes — two to three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Each session builds on the collagen response from the last.
Where Else PRF Works
PRF can be injected anywhere you’d consider dermal filler — with the understanding that the mechanism and timeline are different. Filler adds immediate volume that lasts months. PRF adds initial volume that’s temporary, followed by collagen production that’s lasting.
Cheeks and temples. Volume loss in these areas creates an aged, hollowed appearance. PRF restores volume naturally while building collagen for lasting structural support. For patients who want a subtler, more gradual approach than synthetic filler, PRF offers genuine improvement without the “just filled” look.
Nasolabial folds. The lines from nose to mouth respond to PRF’s collagen stimulation — filling from within as new tissue builds. Multiple sessions produce progressive improvement.
Jawline and chin. PRF can improve skin quality and subtle contouring along the jaw. For structural definition, traditional fillers or Sculptra may be more appropriate — but PRF excels at improving the tissue quality alongside structural treatments.
Lips. PRF lip injection improves lip quality, hydration, and subtle fullness — with a natural look and feel that synthetic filler sometimes doesn’t achieve. For patients who want lip enhancement that feels completely natural, PRF is worth discussing.
Hands and decollete. The thin skin on the backs of hands and the chest responds well to PRF’s collagen stimulation — improving crepiness, texture, and the visible aging that these often-neglected areas show.
PRF vs Dermal Fillers — When to Choose Which
This isn’t an either-or decision. They’re different tools.
| PRF / EZGel | Hyaluronic Acid Fillers | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Your own blood (platelets, fibrin, growth factors) | Synthetic hyaluronic acid (Juvéderm, Restylane) |
| Volume | Subtle, temporary initial volume + lasting collagen | Immediate, predictable volume lasting 6-18 months |
| Mechanism | Stimulates your body to produce new collagen | Physically occupies space with gel |
| Under-eye safety | No Tyndall effect risk | Tyndall effect possible in thin-skinned areas |
| Results timeline | Builds over weeks to months | Immediate |
| Sessions | 2-3 for optimal results | Usually 1 |
| Dissolvable | Absorbed naturally by body | Dissolvable with hyaluronidase |
| Best for | Patients wanting natural bio-filler, under-eye rejuvenation, collagen building | Patients wanting immediate volume, precise contouring, longer-lasting structure |
Choose PRF when:
- You want a natural, non-synthetic approach
- Under-eye rejuvenation is the primary goal (Tyndall effect concern)
- You prefer gradual, natural-looking improvement over immediate volume
- You’re interested in collagen stimulation, not just volume replacement
- You’ve had reactions to synthetic fillers in the past
Choose dermal fillers when:
- You want immediate, visible volume
- Precise contouring is the goal (jawline, cheekbones, lips)
- You need predictable, longer-lasting results from a single session
- You want the structural definition that HA gel provides
Use both when:
- You want structural volume from filler in some areas AND natural regeneration from PRF in others
- Under-eye PRF combined with cheek or jawline filler — addresses the whole face with the right tool in each zone
What Treatment Looks Like
The blood draw. A small amount drawn from your arm — same as any lab work.
Processing. Your blood is centrifuged on-site at Illume. For standard PRF: slower spin, no anticoagulant, fibrin matrix preserved. For EZGel: additional heating step creates a smooth gel consistency. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
Numbing. Topical numbing cream applied to injection areas. For under-eye treatment, your provider may use additional local anesthesia for comfort.
Injection. PRF or EZGel is injected using precise technique — needle or cannula depending on the area. Your provider places the material strategically based on your anatomy and goals. Treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the number of areas.
Immediately after. Mild swelling and possible bruising at injection sites. The initial volume you see includes some swelling — the final result emerges over the following weeks as swelling resolves and collagen builds.
Recovery. Resume normal activities the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Mild swelling for one to three days. Bruising possible for a few days, especially around the eyes — arnica and ice help.
How Many Sessions and How Long Results Last
Sessions: Two to three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart for optimal results. Each session adds another layer of collagen stimulation.
Results timeline: Initial improvement from volume at one to two weeks (as swelling resolves). Progressive collagen building over two to three months. Peak results at approximately three months after your final session.
Longevity: The collagen your body builds is real tissue — it doesn’t dissolve on a schedule the way HA filler does. Most patients enjoy results for twelve to eighteen months. Annual maintenance sessions sustain the regenerative benefits.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is PRF?
PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is your own blood processed in a centrifuge to create a concentrated fibrin matrix packed with platelets and growth factors. Unlike PRP, PRF is spun without anticoagulant at a slower speed, preserving the fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors gradually. It can be injected as a natural bio-filler anywhere traditional dermal filler is used — under eyes, cheeks, temples, lips, nasolabial folds, and more.
What is EZGel PRF?
EZGel is PRF that’s been heated after centrifuging to create a smooth, gel-like consistency. It handles more like traditional dermal filler — giving your provider greater precision during injection, especially in delicate areas like under the eyes. Same biological material, refined form.
How is PRF different from PRP?
PRP is liquid plasma with concentrated platelets — best for surface applications like microneedling. PRF includes a fibrin matrix that holds growth factors in a three-dimensional scaffold, releasing them gradually over days to weeks. PRF has more body and can be injected as a bio-filler. PRP is the liquid boost. PRF is the injectable regenerator.
Can PRF replace dermal fillers?
For some patients and some areas, yes. PRF offers a natural alternative to synthetic fillers — particularly under the eyes where it avoids the Tyndall effect risk. However, PRF provides subtler volume than HA fillers, requires multiple sessions, and results are more gradual. For patients wanting immediate, dramatic volume or precise structural contouring, traditional fillers are still the stronger tool. Many patients benefit from both.
How much does PRF treatment cost?
We don’t publish specific pricing because treatment plans are customized by area and number of sessions. PRF is generally comparable in cost to dermal filler sessions. IllumèNaughty Beauty Bank members receive their discount. Your provider discusses exact pricing during your consultation.
Is PRF safe for under the eyes?
Yes — and it’s one of the safest options for the under-eye area specifically. Because PRF is your own biological material, there’s no risk of the Tyndall effect (blue discoloration) that synthetic HA fillers can cause in thin under-eye skin. Allergic reactions are essentially impossible since the material comes from your own blood.
How many PRF sessions do I need?
Two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Each builds on the collagen response from the previous session. Peak results at approximately three months after the final treatment. Annual maintenance recommended.
How long do PRF results last?
Twelve to eighteen months. The collagen your body builds is real tissue — it doesn’t dissolve on a schedule. Annual maintenance sessions sustain the benefits and continue building on previous results.
The Filler Your Body Makes
There’s something fundamentally appealing about a treatment that uses what’s already yours. No synthetic gel. No foreign material. Just your own biology — concentrated, refined, and redirected to where it does the most good.
PRF isn’t replacing the fillers we use every day. It’s offering something they can’t: regeneration from the inside, using materials your body already trusts.
If that approach resonates with you — let’s talk about where it fits in your plan.
